9 Children Hurt In School Bus Wreck In Inglewood

INGLEWOOD (CBSLA) – Nine children and one driver suffered minor injuries in a school bus crash in Inglewood Wednesday morning.

A Los Angeles Unified School District bus collided with two other cars at the intersection of Manchester and Van Ness avenues at 7:36 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Investigators are looking into whether a PT Cruiser ran a red light and collided into the bus.

"Looks to me, right away, a violation, and that's what's under investigation right now," California Highway Patrol officer Vance Perreira said.

A total of 56 children and one driver were aboard the bus. Nine of the children were were transported to local hospitals with bumps and bruises, officials on scene told CBS2. The driver of the Cruiser was also taken to a hospital after complaining of pain.

"This car kind of spun out and careened into the bus, and I'm in disbelief because this just happened out of nowhere," said Cassandra Brown, the driver of the other car involved in the crash. "I'm feeling lightheaded and a little stressed in my back."

The remaining children were relocated to a nearby building.

"As you can imagine, the children were very upset, crying and nervous about the accident, but they were quickly assessed and brought out and calmed down and moved to a safe area," L.A. County Fire Capt. Brian Tobar told CBS2.

CHP officers are investigating. There are cameras at the intersection that CHP investigators will use to piece together how the crash occurred.
