Man Arrested After Allegedly Shooting At Deputies With Pellet Gun

CANYON COUNTRY (CBSLA) — A man was taken into custody Monday in Canyon Country after allegedly shooting at sheriff's deputies with a pellet gun.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, an off-duty deputy was driving in the area of Soledad Canyon Road at about 6:30 p.m. when he saw a man carrying what appeared to be a rifle.

The deputy then flagged down a passing patrol vehicle and said the man was seen running into an encampment in the Santa Clara riverbed.

As the two deputies spoke, they heard what sounded like BBs striking the off-duty deputy's personal vehicle, the department said.

Additional deputies were called to the scene to assist in the search, prompting the closure of Soledad Canyon Road between Camp Plenty Road and Langslide Avenue.

The man, whose name has not been released, was eventually located and taken into custody.

SKY9 captured deputies detaining a number of people, but it was not immediately clear if any of them were taken into custody or if they were just being questioned.

From overhead, it appeared that deputies recovered what appeared to be a rifle, but the department said that as of 9 p.m. no weapon had been retrieved.

There were also reports that a Santa Clarita city transit bus was also struck by a pellet.

There were no reports of injuries.
