'Seinfeld' Actor Wayne Knight Very Much Alive, Despite Internet Reports

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — "Seinfeld" actor Wayne Knight has not called it a day.

Internet rumors on Sunday said the actor who played Newman, Jerry's nemesis on "Seinfeld," had died in a traffic accident on the New York-Pennsylvania border.

Knight, 58, humorously took to Twitter to tell the world he was fine.

"Some of you will be glad to hear this, others strangely disappointed … but I am alive and well!," Knight quipped.

Hours later, seeing an outpouring of grief from friends and fans who had not yet seen his denial, Knight tweeted a more sincere response to the hoax.

"Thanks for all the love, everybody. I didn't know you cared. Glad to be breathing!" he tweeted.

Of course, the actor -- who is currently starring as Haskell Lutz on TV Land's "The Exes," took a final shot at the hoax with humor.

"Does someone have to DIE to trend? Geez!"

As of 4 p.m. on Sunday, his imdb.com page still was reporting Knight was dead.

Knight's many credits include "Jurassic Park," "Hot in Cleveland" and "3rd Rock From the Sun."
