Deputies Rescue Dog Over Cliff In Altadena Foothills

ALTADENA (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles County Sheriff's department search and rescue operation on Tuesday afternoon successfully lowered a dog down a ravine in the Altadena area after the dog fell over the side of a cliff.

The dog was hiking with its owner near Cobb Estate off the Sam Merrill Trailhead in Altadena when it lost its footing and went over a cliff, falling about 400 feet, according to the Altadena Sheriff's Station.

A deputy descended the ravine and made contact with the dog. He even used beef jerky to entice the dog to cooperate.

Authorities described as a two-year-old Shepherd mix named Angel.

The deputy could be seen on aerial footage from Sky9 attempting to descend a line with the dog in tow. The deputy could later be seen walking the dog out on flatter ground.

The dog's owner is from Highland Park, according to officials.

Angel suffered only a scratch on its nose, authorities said.
