Search On For Violent Suspect After Long Beach Courthouse Escape

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Police are looking for a man with a history of violence who escaped from a Long Beach courthouse Wednesday.

Abel Munguia, 19, of San Pedro, was in court to answer two felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem. Police say Munguia headed for a restroom, then slipped out of the Deukmejian courthouse on Magnolia Avenue.

A $1.25 million dollar warrant was issued for his arrest.

According to the LAPD, Munguia was arrested last December after stabbing a 20-year-old woman in the back.  He was arrested again last week and accused of trying to gouge out a man's eye.

Police said Munguia was wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet when he escaped. It was later cut off and found in Carson.
