Search Is On For 1 Of 2 Drivers Who Hit Teen Girl Running Through Santa Ana Traffic
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Santa Ana police are searching for one of two drivers who hit a teenage girl as she was running through moving traffic.
The incident, which was caught on camera at Santa Ana College, happened Monday on 17th and Bristol streets.
KCAL9's Michele Gile reports that the high school sophomore was technically at fault because she was running against a red light.
However, the two drivers, one in a red truck and the other in a black sedan, fled the scene after briefly stopping.
"Yeah, I can't explain it. They were there for some period of time. They just never identified themselves to any law enforcement personnel…left the scene," Santa Ana police Officer Weston Hadley said.
The teen injured her leg.
Officials said a Good Samaritan followed one of the fleeing drivers while calling 911.
A 32-year-old man in the red truck was eventually arrested for hit-and-run, as well as driving without a license.
"[We're still looking for] the driver of the black vehicle. Gets out…goes over, looks like she makes contact with the pedestrian, and then leaves," Hadley said.
