1 Shot Near Crenshaw High School; No Students Involved

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — Police Tuesday were searching for a gunman after a shooting at Crenshaw High School, authorities said.

Paramedics responded to the 5000 block of S. 11th Avenue just before 8 a.m. and transported one gunshot victim, according to a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesperson.

The unidentified victim was not a student at Crenshaw High, police said.

KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reported a 42-year-old Hispanic man was wounded in the shooting.

Police say the shooting occurred off campus and that victim may have run onto school grounds.

Students were safe following the shooting, but no suspect was in custody. Officials say the suspected shooter was last seen in a dark-colored truck or SUV.

LA Unified School District spokeswoman Barbara Jones says no students were involved and classes were not in session at the time of the shooting. The school was locked down as a precaution during the police investigation.
