Search Continues For Topanga Smash-And-Grab Robbers

CANOGA PARK (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles police continued to search Thursday for four men who carried out an armed smash-and-grab robbery at a jewelry store in the Westfield Topanga Mall in Canoga Park.

The robbery at Ben Bridge Jewelers happened at about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday. Robbers ordered employees to get on the floor, smashed a display case and got away with about 50 Rolex watches, some of which were fitted with GPS tracking devices, police said.

The thieves fled, heading south on the Ventura (101) Freeway to the San Diego (405) Freeway.

Police tracked the GPS signals but eventually lost them along the southbound 405 Freeway. At least one tracking device was found about 8:30 p.m. near the Skirball Center in the Sepulveda Pass.

The robbers were described as four men wearing hoodies. At least one of them had a handgun, according to the LAPD, while the rest were armed with hammers.
