Scientists Recruit Men, Women To Participate In Nationwide Cocoa Study

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Do you have a sweet tooth for chocolate? If so, you're in luck.

Scientists are recruiting older men and women to participate in a nationwide study that looks at the effects cocoa has on the heart and brain.

Participants will not eat chocolate during the study, but instead, they will test supplements containing cocoa extract.

Researchers from Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle say the results of the study may shed more light on what we already know about chocolate and its impact on health, according to CBS News.

The study will explore whether concentrated cocoa extract helps to reduce heart disease and stroke.

Chocolate maker Mars and pharmaceutical company Pfizer are sponsors of the study.
