Schools Reopen Near Big Bear Lake

BIG BEAR LAKE (AP) — Schools have reopened in the Southern California mountain community where crews are battling a small forest fire burning through timber near a popular ski resort.

Firefighters have held the blaze at Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains to 100 acres. It is 50 percent contained.

Classes resumed Wednesday for all schools within Bear Valley Unified School District. The schools were closed Monday and Tuesday because of poor air quality.

The blaze broke out Sunday in the area about 100 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The cause is under investigation.
