School Mourns After 15-Year-Old Student Dies In Cliff-Jumping Accident

APPLE VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A community was in mourning on Monday following the tragic death of a local teenager who died in a drowning accident.

Sheriff's deputies say Oscar Fuentes, 15, died on Friday after jumping from a 50-foot cliff into the Deep Creek area pool.

He never resurfaced.

Friends attempted to find him, but were unsuccessful, and Fuentes' body was eventually found by dive teams from the Sheriff's department.

"Everyone is devastated," friend Cole Stewart said. "It's so quiet. I could barely handle it. In the library, they have a support group. I was probably in there the whole day."

Friends and staff at Apple Valley High School, where Fuentes was a student and played football, explain the teen as someone who put forth an extra effort to maintain a diverse group of friends.

Many students wore Fuentes' football number to school on Monday, along with his favorite phrase, "Love is life, and life is love."

The Apple Valley district posted a statement to their website, sharing condolences with Fuentes' family.
