School Holds Vigil For Students Killed By Falling Tree In Yosemite

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Students at a local high school gathered in vigil Tuesday to remember two fellow students who were killed by a falling tree in Yosemite.

Friends and classmates of Dragon Kim and Justin Lee gathered at Northwood High School, where the two had played in a water polo club. Both were just 14 years old when a tree branch fell on their tent as they slept in Yostemite on Friday.

Both would have registered for classes at Orange County School of the Arts in Santa Ana on Tuesday. Kim and Lee were going to play wind instruments there.

Classmates, teachers and teammates lit candles for the students on Tuesday at the high school's pool.

"It's just so sad to see them go," teammate Evan Kim said. "I know that they left such a positive impact on our lives, and I'm just blessed that I was able to know them and be their friend."

A joint memorial is planned for August 23 at 4:00 p.m.
