Santa Monica Pier Ferris Wheel Honors Military Heroes During Debut Of New Lighting System

SANTA MONICA (CBSLA.com) — The iconic Santa Monica Pier Ferris wheel hosted a fireworks display in honor of military heroes last week after going dark for its nearly $1 million revamp.

The Ferris wheel at Pacific Park's amusement park held the special display Thursday during its debut of its new lighting system.

The Ferris wheel continued to operate during the lighting overhaul, which now features higher resolution, greater color depth and faster "frames per second" display speed.

Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier opened May 26, 1996 and the new lighting system was part of its 20th birthday celebration.
