Santa Barbara Deputies Fatally Shoot Suspect In Homicide At Home Owned By 'Tarzan' Actor Ron Ely

SANTA BARBARA (CBSLA) — An elderly woman was found fatally shot at a home in the Hope Ranch neighborhood of Santa Barbara Tuesday night.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to the home in the 4100 block of Mariposa Drive for reports of a domestic dispute around 8:15 p.m. Deputies said they also found a disabled elderly man who was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

Deputies searched the home and secured a perimeter and advised neighbors to remain indoors as the search continued. Deputies later found the suspect on the home's property and said they attempted to gain verbal control of the suspect, but the suspect presented a threat to them. In a statement, the sheriff's department said several deputies fired their service weapons at the suspect, killing him.

According to property records, the home where the homicide and deputy-involved shooting took place is owned by Ron Ely, best known for having portrayed Tarzan in the 1966 series. Deputies said they do not believe Ely was involved in the shooting.

The sheriff's department said it was conducting a criminal investigation into the homicide, processing the crime scene and working to identify the relationship of the people involved.

The deputies involved in the shooting would be placed on administrative leave, which the department said was routine following any deputy-involved shooting.
