San Bernardino Police Fatally Shoot Man They Said Was Threatening A Family

SAN BERNARDINO (AP) — San Bernardino police say they fatally shot a man after he ran away from officers investigating a report about a gunman threatening a family.

Sgt. Vicki Cervantes, a department spokeswoman, said the officers were responding to a 911 call Sunday afternoon from a 7-year-old girl who said two men were threatening to shoot her father at a park.

When officers arrived at the park, the girl and her father pointed out two suspects. Cervantes said one man cooperated with the officers and was detained for questioning, but the other fled on a bicycle.

Cervantes said one of the officers chased the man and fired several rounds at him in the alleyway.

She said authorities were investigating the circumstances that led the officer to fire at the man.
