San Bernardino Man Accused Of Trying To Stab Senior Citizen In The Face During Attack

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 34-year-old man they described as an active gang member was arrested in connection with the attempted assault of a senior citizen.

Just before noon Saturday, the victim dialed 911 to report that he had been attacked by a man who he said tried to stab him in the face.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department said in a news release that the victim had been overpowered by the suspect at his door.

The man, according to authorities, managed to run to his bedroom, where he was able to dial 911 from his cellphone.

Police said a suspect description from the victim led to the capture of a man they identified as Antonio Martinez Tellez of San Bernardino.

Tellez was located about a block away from the victim's yard, and was taken into custody without incident.

Authorities said Tellez has an "extensive" violent criminal history, and was recently released from prison, but was on parole.

Anyone with information about this case was asked to call the We-tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463).
