San Bernardino Health Officials Confirm 9 New Cases Of Measles

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health announced Thursday they have confirmed nine new cases of measles within the county.

These cases were either initial exposures or linked as secondary cases to the recent outbreak at the Disneyland theme parks, officials said in a statement.

Authorities say it is possible more residents may have been exposed to the highly contagious disease after one of the confirmed cases visited the following public places while infectious:

    • Walmart, 4210 E. Highland Ave. Highland, CA 92346
      Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.
    • Loma Linda University Medical Center, 7223 Church St. Suite C-1 Highland, CA 92346
      Monday, Feb. 9, 2015 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.
      Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015 11:00 a.m.  – 2:30 p.m.
      Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015 1:30 – 4:00 p.m.

The Department of Public Health has been working with the above locations to contact people who may have been exposed, but as a precaution, anyone who have been in any of the locations during the times listed should watch for a fever and/or an unexplained rash between seven and 21 days after the exposure and if symptoms develop, stay at home and call a health care provider immediately or the DPH at 1-800-722-4794.

Officials warn not to visit a health care provider without first notifying them of your potential exposure.

Symptoms of the measles include fever, rash, cough and red, watery eyes. It spreads easily by air and by direct contact with an infected person and is contagious from approximately four days before the rash appears through four days after the rash appears.
