Samuels Notches Double-Double As Long Beach State Downs Northridge

LONG BEACH (AP) — David Samuels scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Long Beach State to a 69-58 victory over Cal State Northridge on Thursday night.

McKay LaSalle added 11 points and Mike Caffey 10, along with eight assists, for the 49ers (15-16, 9-6 Big West). Samuels' double-double was his eighth with LBSU.

Stephen Maxwell had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Matadors (9-23, 4-12) to notch his 42nd career double-double. Devonte Elliott added 14 points and Aaron Parks 11.

The game was the regular-season finale for the Matadors while the 49ers finish at UC Riverside on Saturday. Both teams are headed for the conference tournament.

Long Beach was ahead by five at halftime and led the entire second half. The 49ers built a 14-point lead that the Matadors cut to six, 58-52, with 4:11 left. Travis Hammonds made two free throws and a 3-pointer in making it an 11-point margin.
