Samsung Expands Galaxy Note7 Recall, Sends Out 'Explosion-Proof' Return Kit

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Samsung is sending out an extensive, "explosion-proof" packaging kit to owners of the Galaxy Note7, which is being recalled because its batteries can explode or catch fire.

The return kit includes detailed instructions, a thermal-insulated box and gloves that will apparently be transported by ground because the box is specifically labeled, "forbidden for transport by aircraft."

Social media posts have documented several flights banning powered-on Galaxy Note7 phones.

Samsung has received 96 reports in the U.S. of batteries in the Note7 overheating, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The company has also received 13 reports of burns and 47 reports of property damage associated with the phones.

The recall on the phone has been expanded to include all original replacement devices.

The phones can be exchanged for another Samsung phone with a refund for the price difference or customers can also get a refund at the point of purchase.
