Sabra Announces Hummus Recall Over Listeria Concerns

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)   —   The Sabra Dipping company on Friday announced a recall over some hummus products citing a concern over listeria contamination.

The FDA said the recall includes hummus sold to supermarkets, retail outlets and food service businesses in the US and Canada.

The products -- made prior to Nov. 8 -- include classic hummus, hummus with caramelized onions and classic with garlic, to name just a few.

Listeria can cause serious illness and even death in young children, the elderly or people with compromised immune systems.

In healthy adults, listeria can cause vomiting, cramping, diarrhea and severe headache. Among pregnant women it can also cause miscarriages.

There are no known reports of anyone becoming ill but the company told the FDA they were pulling the products out of an abundance of caution.

The company announced a similar recall in April 2015.
