Ruptured Main Leaves Hancock Park Residents Without Water

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Residents in Hancock Park were without water Monday as crews worked to repair a broken water main, officials said.

Between 30 to 40 homes near Lorraine Boulevard and Fifth Street were affected by the rupture shortly before 5 a.m. this morning, KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reported.

The 6-inch cast iron main that ruptured was installed in 1925, according to the DWP's Kirk Broulliard, who described the rupture as a "moderate" break.

Crews hope to have the section of pipe that ruptured repaired by mid-afternoon, but fixing the street may take a bit longer.

"We'll make the repairs, we'll make the repairs to the concrete afterwards and make the street driveable," Broulliard said.

Officials say the street should be fully restored by mid-week.
