'Rufus' The Fish Won't Be Evicted From Rosemead Restaurant

ROSEMEAD (AP) — Good news for Rufus the fish — the carrot-loving pacu won't be evicted from his home of nearly 40 years.

Rufus was left symbolically high and dry when the Bahooka, a tiki restaurant in Rosemead, closed last March.

But the Los Angeles Times says the property's current owners decided Monday to keep Rufus. They plan to build him a new 2,000-gallon tank, where Rufus will live when they open a Chinese restaurant on the site later this year.

Rufus was a beloved resident of the Bahooka. A veggie-loving relative of the piranha, patrons would feed him carrots as he lazed in his tank. He even appeared in a scene with Johnny Depp filmed for the movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas."
