Rollins Faces Phillies For 1st Time Since Leaving For LA
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jimmy Rollins pretty much accomplished everything he could during 14 years with the Philadelphia Phillies. A World Series title. Three All-Star selections. The NL MVP award.
That's what made it easier for him to flee a franchise in the throes of rebuilding and not look back.
Rollins' past caught up with him Monday night, when the Phillies opened a four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 36-year-old shortstop says he's not feeling any nostalgia for his first look at his former team, calling it just another game.
Rollins is set to bat ninth in the Dodgers' lineup, no doubt a strange spot for Phillies fans used to seeing him in the leadoff slot. He's hitting a career-worst .208, lowest among NL hitters. Rollins says batting last is just a one-game situation.
The Dodgers lead the NL West by four games. The Phillies are last in the NL East, 19 games behind first-place Washington.
