Riverside Man Struck By Vehicle While Jaywalking Remains Hospitalized

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A 36-year-old man remained hospitalized Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while illegally crossing the street on foot.

According to the Riverside Police Department, officers were sent around 9:00 p.m. Friday to the area of Van Buren Boulevard and Philbin Avenue for reports of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

Witnesses explained to officers that the pedestrian was crossing Van Buren Boulevard against traffic and outside of the designated crosswalk when he was struck.

A preliminary investigation revealed a 56-year-old driver was traveling southbound on Van Buren Boulevard, and had just passed Philbin Avenue when the collision took place.

Officers said they transported the victim to a hospital with major injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.

The collision remains under investigation.
