Rideshare Week Revs Up Across California

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Monday marked the first day of California Rideshare Week.

The event, which ends Oct. 10, is an opportunity to raise awareness about the benefits of sharing a ride to work, either by carpooling or by taking public transportation.

"Ridesharing helps commuters reduce trip costs, get to work on time, and contributes to decreasing greenhouse gas emissions," Metro said.

Organizers also added that carpooling and vanpooling allows commuters to rest, read, or check emails while traveling.

Riders are encouraged to pledge to rideshare this week by registering online for a chance to win Macy's gift cards, AAA memberships, iPad minis and Disneyland passes.
