Reward Offered For Stolen Car With Antique Cello In Trunk

GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) – Glendale police need the public's help in locating a stolen vehicle with an expensive antique cello in the trunk.

A maroon four-door 2007 Acura ATL was stolen from the Embassy Suites Hotel parking lot at 800 N. Central Ave. on Nov. 1, according to the Glendale Police Department's Public Information Officer Tahnee Lightfoot.

Investigators said the cello is valued at more than $1 million.

On the right side of the musical instrument is a label that reads: "Antonio Domenicelli Fecit en Ferrara 1714." There are scratch marks on the back, according to Lightfoot.

The cello's owner, Cameron Stone, is a musician for Hollywood studios. "I worked with Andrea Bocelli this year, Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys, a couple projects for Dr. Dre, a couple guys from 'American Idol,' " he said.

Stone said the 300-year-old cello was a family heirloom.

Because the cello was made in Italy in 1714, "it's very expensive. It's almost kind of reaching into the art world in terms of, you know, the pricing of the instrument," said Wesley Wang at the Metzler Violin Shop.

Police said it is unclear if the thief targeted Stone or was aware of what was inside the trunk.

Stone said the one time he left the cello in his car, it got stolen.

A $1,000 reward is being offered to anyone who can help bring back the cello.

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Glendale Police Department at (818) 548-4911. Callers may remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
