Retired Deputy Pleads Not Guilty To Firing Gun After Doorbell Prank

SANTA CLARITA (AP) — A retired Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputy has pleaded not guilty to firing a gun into the air after a group of children pranked him at his home.

City News Service reports Wednesday that Sung Jin Pak, 48, is accused of discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

Officials say Pak fired the gun into the air after a group of children repeatedly rang his doorbell as a prank in October.

Police say Pak was not in court for the arraignment and entered his plea through an attorney. The judge ordered him not to possess any firearms.

Officials say if he is convicted, Pak will face up to one year in county jail. His pretrial hearing is scheduled for next month.
