Sewage Line Break Displaces Residents Of San Gabriel Assisted Living Facility

SAN GABRIEL (CBSLA.com) — Eight residents of a San Gabriel assisted living facility remained displaced Saturday following a sewage line break, police say.

Forty-seven people were evacuated from Vista Cove Care Center, located near the intersection of South Santa Anita Avenue and South Arroyo Drive, after the incident was reported around 7:15 p.m. Friday.

The displaced residents included 36 convalescent facility patients and 11 apartment residents, Lauren Gold, public information officer for the City of San Gabriel, told City News Service.

A spokesperson for the San Gabriel Police Department told CBS2/KCAL9 eight residents were displaced and transported.

Crews were working late into Friday evening to repair the break.

A preliminary investigation suggests the overflow was linked to construction work for the Alameda Corrido-East railroad project, located near the facility, Gold said.

Crews were still cleaning up the scene early Saturday morning.
