Residents Express Concerns Over Neighbor's Flag They Say Contained Possible Nazi Symbol

GRANADA HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A flag flown outside of a Granada Hills home is creating outrage Wednesday night as residents are concerned for their well-being and the neighborhood.

Video captured by CBS2 Tuesday night showed what appears to be a Nazi flag with SS Bolts flying outside of a home in the area.

A man exited the home and denied having the flag, while another tried to block the camera with his hand.

The flag was gone Wednesday afternoon, and CBS2 attempted to talk with one of the residents who had returned home.

However, he shut the front door.

"I wonder really his level of understanding of what it is and what it means to us as a Jewish people," said Meir Rivkin, who runs the Chabad House across the street.

Rivkin doesn't know if the flag was an attack on him and his faith, but wants to send a message to the community: "I would encourage everybody to learn to tolerate. Learn to be friendly. The little things in life are just not worth getting so worked up over."

"There's people out here that they're concerned," said neighbor Tony Moro, who proudly flies an American flag, as well as U.S. Marine Corps flag from his home.

Moro believes in free speech, but questions anyone who advocates hate.

"I don't want my children to have to grow up around that," he said. "How would you feel if they put that up next to your home? How would you feel?"

That neighbor said the SS flag had been up for the past couple of weeks.

The Chabad House told CBS2 Granada Hills is generally very safe, tolerant, and accepting. They hope that doesn't change.
