Remote Camera Captures 10-Month-Old Mountain Lion Kittens Feeding

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) — Two 10-month-old mountain lion kittens appear healthy after a remote camera operated by the National Park Service in the Santa Monica Mountains captured them enjoying a meal of mule deer recently.

The kittens, known as P-28 and P-30, and their mother, P-13, spent two nights sharing their meal of mule deer in Malibu Creek State Park last week, said Kate Kuykendall of the National Park Service.

Biologists determined that mule deer accounted for 95 percent of mountain lion kills after investigating more than 400 kill sites.

The National Park Service has been studying mountain lions in the Santa Monica Mountains and surrounding area since 2002. More pictures can be seen by visiting the National Park Service's Facebook album, which includes images of the kittens feeding on deer that may be disturbing to some viewers.
