Red Flag Warnings Posted For Parts Of Southern California

SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — Red flag warnings and high heat advisories remain in effect Sunday for portions of Southern California.

The National Weather Service says the red flag warning will remain in effect through Monday afternoon for the Ventura County coast, as well as Los Angeles County.

The warning is the result of gusty northeast winds, low relative humidity, and hot temperatures across the region, and will be in effect for the areas of Malibu to the Hollywood Hills.

About 100 additional firefighters have been asked to work Sunday as a result of the elevated fire danger in the Santa Clarita Valley, and other areas.

Firefighters are concerned about grass fires starting in and around the Santa Clarita Valley, Malibu, and La Canada Flintridge.

"Unfortunately, with a wind-driven fire, it pushes the embers ahead of the main fire and creates spot fires," said Greg Messineo of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. "It just makes the fire larger and larger."
