Records Show No Recent Violations For Truck That Killed LAPD Officer
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The trash truck that struck and killed a Los Angeles Police officer last week had no recent violations on record, according to California Highway Patrol records.
Preliminary results of the accident investigation revealed that the truck that careened downhill into a police cruiser driven by LAPD Officer Nicholas Lee may have had a mechanical problem with its brakes.
Lee, a 16-year veteran with the department, was declared dead at the Beverly Hills scene and his rookie partner was injured.
CHP records show the truck was up to date on necessary inspections as of 2012, but two years earlier, the same truck was cited for issues with its brakes. The truck was inspected by CHP's Commercial Vehicle division.
Lee was laid to rest in an emotional service Thursday. His partner, identified only as Officer Stephanie, is recovering.
