Rattlesnake Finds Its Way Into Laundry Room Of La Verne Home

LA VERNE (CBSLA.com) — Whether due to Southern California's recent heat wave or the drought, hillside homeowners are finding unwelcome guests slithering into their homes to find a place to cool off.

Nearly a week after a 4-foot rattlesnake was found lounging on a window sill in Oak Park, another homeowner in La Verne heard a strange noise coming from their laundry room and discovered another rattler.

"There is currently a rattlesnake in my house. No joke. Everyone is fine and safe," Heidi Bird posted on Facebook at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday. "A police officer is here with us while we wait for animal control. It's behind our laundry room door. Really loud! [Husband] Jeff Bird was actually really close to it before realizing what was making the noise. So thankful no one was hurt!"

Firefighters told CBS2's Peter Daut that they believe the drought has made this snake season one of the busiest ever, with as many 100 calls for snakes in Oak Park alone this summer.

Authorities say if a snake is found inside a home, call 911, but try to keep an eye on it in case it tries to move into another area.
