Rare Sports Items Being Auctioned To Aid Youth Programs

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  Rare sports memorabilia is being auctioned for a good cause.

The items are being auctioned the by the Helms Athletic Foundation and many date back as far as the 1927 World Series.

Organizers of the auction say there are about 300 items up for bid, including signed baseball gloves, a vintage Heisman Trophy, World Series programs, Jack Dempsey boxing gloves, a Bo Jackson signed jersey, a signed basketball from Sparks star Lisa Leslie and a tennis dress once owned by Billie Jean King, to name a few.

And when you find out how much the complete set of 1952 Topps baseball cards are worth, you will likely scream obscenities at your mother for throwing out yours.

The rare items are considered major scores by sports enthusiasts.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the LA84 Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides grants and scholarships to young people and sports programs in eight Southern California counties.

The auction runs through Aug. 23. For more information about the auction, click here.
