Rancho Cucamonga Residents Targets Of Scam Artist Pretending To Be Deputy

RANCHO CUCAMONGA (CBSLA.com)  —   Authorities are asking Rancho Cucamonga residents to be aware of a scam artist who is pretending to be a sheriff's deputy.

On Saturday, deputies at the Rancho Cucamonga station received three separate reports from Rancho Cucamonga residents about a subject identifying himself as Sergeant David Parker of the Sheriff's Department.

"Parker" told each victim they had outstanding warrants for traffic violations and needed to pay a fine ranging from $400-$500. He told each person to go to a grocery store and purchase a card from a fund transfer website called Reloadit. Once they obtained the card, they were instructed to transfer the money to an account number he provided.

None of the would-be victims followed through with the transfer request.

Officials want to remind the public that no member of law enforcement will ever call you and direct you to pay a fine over the phone.

If you are contacted by anyone attempting to get you to transfer money, you are advised to hang up and report it to your local law enforcement agency immediately.
