Rampage Killer's Neighbor Says He Tried To Befriend Rodger But He Was 'Very Troubled'

ISLA VISTA (CBSLA.com)  —  While school officials were naming three more victims of rampage killer Elliot Rodger's Sunday, investigators searched the homes of the killer's mother and father looking for clues.

At least two of the victims named Sunday (19-year-old George Chen and 20-year-old Cheng Yuan Hong both of San Jose) were Rodger's roommates in a first-floor apartment. Weihan Wang, a 2o-year-old from Fremont, also a student, is believed to have been a roommate or visiting one of the other victims.

Police said all the deceased inside the apartment were fatally stabbed.

Meanwhile, outside Rodger's apartment building CBS2's Greg Mills spoke to a neighbor who knew all the men.

"I don't understand how he could have like overpowered three guys, all at the same time without any of them making a sound," said the neighbor. "Cause I was right upstairs all night."

The upstairs neighbor spoke to Mills but didn't want his face shown on camera or his name used.

He said he lived in the complex for several years and tried to befriend Rodger when he moved in.

"I'm like [trying to] talk to him. But he was a very, very troubled kid," said the neighbor.

"Soon as I come outside, I hear 'pop, pop, pop.' and 'pop, pop, pop, pop, pop,'" he said.

Saturday morning he said he first learned Rodger had killed six people and injured 13 others.

"To be honest," the neighbor said, "it all makes sense now."

Rodger's parents received word about his manifesto on Friday and were racing up to Santa Barbara, according to CNN, to intervene.

They reportedly heard about the rampage while driving in their car.
