Rainfall A Welcome Sight For Christmas Tree Farm Owners In Perris

PERRIS (CBSLA.com) — After a cold and wet day, there is nothing like a fresh cut tree to take home a few days before Christmas.

That's why Shekema Goeyne came out to the Sand Haven Pines Christmas Tree Farm in Perris Tuesday night.

"Last-minute, like always," she said. "Last-minute everything, but we came to pick a tree to get the best selection."

Because it takes a lot of water from the farm's meters to grow the trees, farm owners say any rainfall is a welcome sight.

"With the drought in California, we've had an increase in our water bills so when we get the rain, it comes in it and it saves us a little bit on the water," said Travis Rye of the Sand Haven Pines Christmas Tree Farm.

Rye says when the rain clears up, customers are back on the farm picking out their perfect tree.

That's why he says, by the end of the holiday season, sales really aren't affected negatively by the rainfall.

"As soon as the rain stops, the trees start to smell good and all the dust has been rinsed off of them and all the customers come back," he said.

"In the farm and they're fresher and they'll probably last longer and they look nicer," said Larry De La Cruz, a Riverside resident.
