Downtown LA Sets New Rainfall Record After Wet, Wild Storm

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A new rainfall record was set in the downtown Los Angeles
area Thursday after a second straight day of wet weather caused flooding across the region's freeways and roadways.

The National Weather Service says rain in the downtown area came in at 1.90 inches, topping a previous record was 1.01 inches on this date in 1997.

As of midday, no evacuation orders had been issued in the Malibu area, the scene of the recent Woolsey Fire that now has residents on the lookout for mud and debris flows.

The prolific storm is also bringing snow to Southern California's mountains. Six inches of snow was expected at elevations above 6,500 feet, and the mountains are also expected to get wind gusts of 15-25 miles per hour, with 40-mph gusts.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for the San Gabriel Mountains until midnight.
