Rain Sends Debris Sliding Onto PCH, Leaving Cars Stranded Near Malibu
MALIBU (CBSLA.com/AP) — Rains in the Malibu area have covered part of the Pacific Coast Highway in mud, rocks and debris from a former wildfire area and left about a dozen vehicles stranded.
The California Highway Patrol says 10 to 15 vehicles were marooned Sunday afternoon in Ventura County near Zuma Beach by several inches of mud and sharp rocks that damaged tires.
A six-mile stretch of the highway was closed between Las Posas and Yerba Buena roads, said Patrick Chandler of Caltrans. It's unclear when it will be reopened.
The troubles stood in contrast to the light-but-rare rains that fell on other Southern California cities
Just trace amounts of rain were recorded in Burbank and parts of the San Fernando Valley.
The National Weather Service says the brunt of the storm isn't expected to reach the Southland until Tuesday, when two to three inches of rain could fall on much of the region.
And that has Malibu officials worrying that could bring on more debris flow.
