Raging Fire Engulfs Commercial Structure In North Hollywood
NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A raging fire caused extensive damage Friday night to a restaurant-supply building in North Hollywood.
The blaze broke out just after 7 p.m. and burned through the rooftop of the one-story structure at Fulton Avenue and Raymer Street.
KCAL9's Rachel Kim said 118 firefighters battled the blaze.
Fire crews declared they had knocked down the fire by 8:30 p.m.
Hours later, firefighters were still on scene making sure that hot spots didn't reignite, Kim reported.
Firefighters told Kim that the building was fully engulfed when they arrived.
They also told Kim that many power lines around the building posed a challenge as they had to avoid touching them with their metal ladders.
"It was a pretty difficult firefight," said LA City Fire Battalion Chief Jim Ruiz. "The high temperatures, the time of day, fire companies in this area are already busy ... the radiant heat, and the equipment we have to wear, this was all very taxing for firefighters."
One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
The cause of the fire was not known.
Arson investigators were also on the scene, as is standard procedure.
