Stolen vehicle pursuit ends in grisly crash in South Gate

Authorities are searching for a stolen vehicle suspect who led them on a brief pursuit before crashing into another car and running from the area on foot.

According to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies began pursuing the suspect a little before 3:30 p.m., just minutes before they crashed the stolen Range Rover into five other cars near Southern Avenue and State Street.

One person was killed after being hit by the suspect, an unidentified man who was behind the wheel of a Nissan Sentra.

On Tuesday, the victim was identified as 34-year-old Los Angeles resident Jose Mauricio Ochoa Jr.

Another driver, a woman who was inside of a Toyota 4Runner, also suffered minor injuries.

After crashing, deputies say that three suspects fled from inside of the car, one of which has been taken into custody. It was unclear if they were the driver or a passenger inside of the vehicle.

The other two remain at large.
