Pursuit Ends In Cypress Park; Suspect Killed In OIS

CYPRESS PARK (CBSLA.com) — A male suspect who led officers on an overnight pursuit has died Sunday morning.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers attempted to pull the suspect over in area of Avenue 26 and Figueroa Street around 11:45 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers said the suspect, described as a Hispanic man driving a blue Mazda truck, led officers in a stop and go fashion during the chase through Lincoln Heights.

At one point, authorities said the suspect stopped and exited his vehicle in the area of Broadway and Avenue 31, but proceeded to get back in the car and continue to flee from officers.

According to police, the suspect used a weapon, that looked similar to a shotgun, from within his vehicle and fired several shots at officers.

Soon after the suspect drove over spike strips, SWAT team members shot and killed him.

The pursuit ended in the area of Avenue 28 and Huron Street shortly after 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

The suspect succumbed to injuries sustained in the shooting and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured during the pursuit.
