Pursuit Ends In Fiery Crash That Killed 1, Injured Another

WESTMINSTER (CBSLA.com) — A police pursuit in Orange County ended in a fiery crash that killed a man and injured another.

The pursuit began around 7:15 p.m. Monday after authorities responded to a call for someone making threats with a simulated weapon in the 6700 block of Westminster Boulevard.

When police arrived on scene, a Ford pickup truck took off with two people inside.

Authorities pursued the truck and lost it before locating it once again around 11 p.m.

The pursuit ended when the suspects' truck hit a power pole and caught fire where the northbound 405 Freeway meets the southbound 710 Freeway in Westminster, officials said.

The unidentified passenger died at the scene while the driver, 40-year-old Javier Montoya, was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Montoya, who had several outstanding warrants, faces charges of murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, and felony evasion, officials said.
