Puppy Sustains Burns All Over Its Body, Possibly As A Result Of Acid

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Veterinarians are taking care of another dog that suffered burns to its body possibly due to acid.

Animal services says someone brought in the injured Chihuahua just before noon Thursday to the city's North Shelter on Lacy Street in Lincoln Heights.

The dog was reportedly found in Boyle Heights.

Authorities say the dog's injuries could have been caused by acid, but it is unclear at this point.

"This is the first one in the city, thank God. I've been hearing about cases out in Palmdale and Lancaster," Brenda Barnette, the general manager of Los Angeles Animal Services, told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO.

In the last two months, seven other dogs in the high desert were found with burns. It's unknown whether this newest case is related.

"We just really need help finding out who's involved in this because this is really a heinous crime for this puppy," said Barnette, who explained that the puppy was in guarded condition.

Any information about the person or persons involved in this act of animal cruelty should contact the Animal Cruelty Task Force at (213) 486-0450.
