Public's Help Sought In Solving Murder Of Aspiring Redlands Rapper

REDLANDS (CBSLA.com) — Police sought the public's help Wednesday in solving the murder of a 22-year-old aspiring rapper.

Kevon Decatur was fatally shot on Jan. 20, 2013 in the area of Colton Avenue and Tri-City Center Drive, outside the Cancun Bar and Grill, in Redlands, authorities said.

According to police, Decatur, who had just performed at the venue, was confronted by three unidentified black men, between 18 and 25 years old, outside of the club shortly before closing.

An argument ensued and a shooting was later reported.

Decatur was wounded and transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he died from his injuries, police said.

"Shortly after Decatur was shot, a vehicle with several unidentified black males inside was observed fleeing the area," Carl Baker of the Redlands Police Department said.

The vehicle is described as a white, four-door sedan with large chrome rims.

On Wednesday, Redlands Police released a short video of the men they called suspects in the murder.

Also, on Wednesday a still-grieving Tamara Decatur, the victim's mother, begged for the public to help find the men who murdered her son.

She spoke to CBS2's Tom Wait after seeing the videotape for the first time.

"Somebody knows those men," she said, "Somebody knows who did this. I just want them to come forward. I mean, it's not going to bring him back, but it may relieve some of the pain."

Around her neck, she wears a picture of the mother with her son. "On the back of it, it says 'I have an angel watching over me, I call him my son."

Decatur added, "He was my rock."

"We would appreciate the public's help," Mark Garcia, Redlands Chief of Police said, "obviously you can see he [the victim] has a very loving family."
