Officials Warn Public Of Deputy Impersonation Scam In Whittier

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — Officials Monday warned the public about a scam involving a suspect who pretends to be a sheriff's deputy.

According to the Whittier Police Department, residents have been contacted by phone by an individual who claims to be a sheriff's deputy.

The suspect goes on to explain the victim has missed jury duty and that they are in violation.

The caller then asks the victim to bring $2,000 to the Star Center to settle the violation.

Officers clarified this is a scam as deputies would never call a resident to make any demand for money.

Anyone with information about these incidents is urged to contact the Whittier Police Department at (562) 567-9200, or the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at (562) 949-2421.
