'Public Nuisance' Liquor Stores Targeted In South LA Crackdown
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A City Council member is leading a crackdown of longtime "public nuisance" liquor stores in South Los Angeles.
KNX 1070's Claudia Peschiutta reports City Councilman Curren Price announced a store at Broadway and 42nd Street will lose its liquor license.
According to Price - who represents the "New Ninth" District spanning Staples Center, USC, and Exposition Park - Times Square Liquor is accused of selling alcohol to minors and allowing customers to loiter in the parking lot and drink.
Residents filed hundreds of complaints with Price's office over the store's conduct.
"The Ninth District is open for business, but we're not open for business as usual," Price said. "We're very serious about this...this is a quality of life issue that impacts citizens."
The store is the first of several local liquor stores "that are regularly violating the law" targeted by the Council Office and law enforcement, according to Price.
