Psychological Issues Blamed For Woman's Six-Hour Swim In Echo Park Lake

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A woman who was seen swimming in the Echo Park Lake for several hours this weekend and prompted a police rescue had psychological issues, according to police.

Officers responded to a call Saturday around 5:15 p.m. that someone had jumped in the lake located at 751 N. Echo Park Avenue, according to LAPD Rampart Division.

When officers arrived, they found the unidentified swimmer in the middle of the lake, police said.

After determining the woman was believed to have psychological issues, officers stayed on the scene to prevent any possible drowning, LAPD Rampart Officer Win said.

The woman's antics were reported on social media, with at least one person alleging the woman had been swimming in the nude.

After about six hours, police brought the swimmer back in using one of the Lake's pedal boats - which are among several popular attractions offered during the summer season - and had her examined by emergency personnel.
