Prosecutors Drop Remaining Charge In South L.A. Arrest

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County prosecutors have dismissed the remaining charge against a man allegedly beaten unconscious by police during his arrest.

District attorney's office spokeswoman Shiara Davila-Morales says Wednesday that there are no more criminal charges against 22-year-old Clinton Alford Jr.

Alford was initially charged with resisting arrest and possessing rock cocaine for sale and personal use.

He's filed a federal lawsuit alleging civil rights violations over his Oct. 16 arrest in South Los Angeles.

Alford says he was bicycling home when officers tried to stop him. He ran scared but says he didn't resist arrest when caught but was kicked so forcefully that he blacked out and lost a filling.

A store camera captured the incident.

Officers involved were placed on paid leave pending an investigation.
