Principal At Foothill High School Apologizes For Racist Sign Held At Basketball Game

TUSTIN (CBSLA.com) — The principal at Foothill High School has apologized for a racist sign held up during a basketball game.

The controversy started at a basketball game against rival Tustin High School when a Foothill student held up a sign that said "#CHUNTI."

"Chunti" is a derogatory term aimed at people of Mexican heritage of low income – and it was directed at Tustin students Wednesday night.

The Foothill principal said he was embarrassed and apologized for the incident.

District officials say the student involved is being disciplined.
